Creating a Books Read This Year Tracker for my Reading Goals

Creating a Books Read This Year Tracker for my Reading Goals

Since starting my business, I’ve had the idea in the back of my mind for making a Book Counter. I’ve experimented/workshopped with a few different prototypes, but I couldn’t get it exactly right. Recently, I had the idea to combine it with our mini bookshelves that have been super popular lately. I decided to add number tiles (3 sets of 10), a stand, a drawer, and a sign to our bookcases. Now, any bookshelf can be a book counter! And, you can display adorable mini accessories or books alongside it!

I think this is such a fun idea because, if you’re like me, it can be hard to find time and energy to read, even if I want to. I use a reading app to keep track of books, but I really like having a physical/analog solution. I think this pairs really well with our mini books because I really like having mini books to track the audiobooks or library books I read, since I might not have a physical copy.

Something else I really wanted to keep in mind was the interchangeability of the book counter. With all of my designs, I try to make interchangeable or multi-functional parts. I do this for a number of reasons. It makes products more customizable, it’s helpful for sustainability, and it makes production more efficient. That’s why I wanted to create a buildable design, where you could pick out the different components individually. I think this also creates a product that I can build on as ideas come to me, and slowly add more options for the number tiles, sign, etc.

If you are interested in building a book counter yourself, we have them available on our Virtual Mini Bookshelf Bar!
